I already have a will. Why do I need this?
A will tells everyone who gets what after you die. It does nothing when you're in the ER and someone needs your medical history, or when your spouse can't find your insurance policy at 11pm. The Folio System covers everything that happens before the will gets read.
Couldn't I do this myself with a 3-ring binder?
You could. But the system guides you through it. It includes a 100-page Guidebook that tells you what to put in it, Illustrated Labels so your family can find anything in under 30 seconds, Information Cards for emergencies, and a Conversation Starter for the talks you've been putting off. The binder is the easy part. The Folio System helps with the tough part — actually getting it done.
Can't I just save this in the cloud?
Until you can't. Logging into the cloud requires the password, which is the one thing nobody else has. In a real emergency, your family needs paper they can hold. The Folio is the backup the cloud can't be.
Why does it cost $97? That's expensive.
Because it's built to last. Acid-free archival materials, hand-illustrated labels, and a guidebook reviewed by estate attorneys and elder-care experts. You'll use it for the next thirty years, not the next thirty days.
This feels overwhelming. Does anyone actually get this done?
Yes. Over 225,000 families have. The trick is not trying to do it all in one sitting. Pick the afternoon track. Two hours, and you've covered the essentials, which is more than 90% of people will ever do. The rest fills in over time.
How do I get started?
Open the Welcome Card. It tells you the first move. Most people knock out the essentials in an afternoon and they're ahead of 90% of families.
How long does it take to fill out?
It depends on how thorough you want to be. The Quick Start is one afternoon. Full setup is a weekend. You don't have to do it all in one sitting. We've designed it to guide you through the most essential documents first.
What comes with the Folio System?
The Folio Document Organizer (six large and four small acid-free envelopes), The Family Emergency Guidebook (100+ pages), 55 hand-illustrated labels plus 11 customizable labels, Emergency Information Cards, the 15 Essential Questions, and The Conversation Starter.
What's the difference between The Folio and The Folio System?
The Folio is the document organizer itself, paired with organizational labels. The Folio System is the complete package: it includes The Folio, The Family Emergency Guidebook (100+ pages of step-by-step instructions), The 15 Essential Questions Every Family Needs to Answer, three At-a-Glance Information Cards (Insurance, Medical, Financial), and labels. Think of The Folio System as one-stop shopping: everything you need to organize, record, and prepare your family, all in one place.
What is The Family Emergency Guidebook?
A comprehensive, 100+ page fill-in guide that walks you through recording everything your loved ones might need in an emergency: medical, legal, financial, insurance, digital accounts, and everyday household details. It includes a priority planner so you can start with what matters most.
What documents should I have ready in case of a family emergency?
At minimum: a will, power of attorney, advance directive, insurance policies, and key financial account information. The Guidebook covers all of these and more, including contacts, medications, digital accounts, passwords, and household details, with space to record each one.
Is the Folio System for parents or for adult kids?
Both. The Guidebook includes sections for the person filling it out and guidance for loved ones, so your family knows where to find things and what steps to take if something happens.
How do I get my parents to organize their documents?
Hand them the Folio System. The Conversation Starter asks the questions you don't want to. Your parents don't always want to hear it from you. They'll listen to the book.
How do I get my kids to have the conversation about death?
Same answer. Give them the Folio System. It opens the topic without you having to bring up your own mortality at Sunday dinner.
How many Folio Systems do I need to buy?
Most families need at least two. One for you, one for your parents. Three is even better, add one for your adult kids. Save up to 50% on additional sets.
Will this help if I have to evacuate for a wildfire or flood?
Yes. If you've filled in the Guidebook, your most critical information is already recorded in one place. Grab The Folio and go. You won't have to search for account numbers, insurance policies, medication lists, or emergency contacts under pressure.
What do I do if I'm missing documents?
The Guidebook tells you exactly which ones to gather, where to find them, and how to replace anything that's lost. Birth certificates, Social Security cards, titles. None of them are hard to replace once you know what's gone.
What about passwords, phone access, and online accounts?
The Guidebook includes a dedicated section for digital accounts and access information. Many people plan for the big things like wills and insurance but forget that their loved ones may not be able to unlock their phone, access email, or manage online subscriptions. The Guidebook prompts you to record all of it.
Does the Guidebook cover pets, dependents, and legacy planning?
Yes. There are dedicated sections for dependents and care instructions, pet information (veterinarians, medications, routines), and legacy planning. It's designed to capture the full picture of your life, not just the legal and financial basics.
Is this useful for military families?
Absolutely. Military families face unique challenges: frequent relocations, deployments, and the need for a spouse or family member to access critical information on short notice. The Guidebook keeps everything organized and accessible in one place, so your family is prepared whether you're home or away.
Can other families use the Folio System? How will my family members know how to use it?
Yes! This was our key design requirement. The table of contents and clear labeling mean anyone can find documents in under 30 seconds, even during stressful situations. No more being the only person who knows where anything is.
What if I'm not organized enough to maintain this?
The beauty of The Folio System is that it's designed for real life, not perfectionism. The guided system tells you what to do, step by step, and you fill it in at your own pace.
What size is The Folio System?
The Folio System measures 11.1" W x 2" D x 12.88" and weighs approximately 2.01 lbs. Three vertical and three horizontal envelopes are designed to hold A4 or 8.5x11" papers, such as birth certificates, wedding certificates, medical directives, DNRs and more. The four half-size envelopes hold smaller items like passports, social security cards, gift cards, photos, and postcards.
Will all my documents actually fit?
The Folio System is designed to hold 50-75 full-size documents without folding, plus smaller items like passports and cards in the 10 resealable envelopes. If you have more, we recommend getting a second Folio for different categories (financial vs. legal, for example).
Can I get it personalized with my company's logo or my name?
Yes, we've worked with an array of companies from financial planners to estate planners, lawyers to real estate agents, and more who love to give The Folio System to their clients to help them organize important documents. We also do individual personalization. Contact us to learn more.
What if I don't love it?
